Working offline

How Plainwork behaves when your connection drops, and how offline edits sync back.

Last updated

Plainwork keeps working when your network drops. You can keep reading and editing notes, and the app will sync your changes as soon as you're back online.

The offline banner

When you lose connectivity, a banner appears at the top of the app:

You're offline. Changes will sync once you're back online.

The banner stays until your connection is restored — it can't be dismissed, so you always know the current state. It disappears on its own the moment you're back online.

What still works offline

  • Reading any note or collection already loaded in this session.
  • Writing, formatting, and reorganising notes.
  • Editing properties on notes.

What's paused offline

  • Sending and receiving edits from collaborators in real time.
  • Public share links and exports that need the server.
  • Sign-in and workspace switching.

How changes sync back

Edits you make while offline are queued locally. When the connection comes back, Plainwork sends the queue to the server in order and merges it with any changes made by others. You don't need to refresh — the banner disappears and sync resumes automatically.
